COMMUNITY ACTION- SAVING THE ENVIRONMENT
Happening organized to create awareness for the Valley of the Gazelles, Jerusalem, Israel which was an endangered area. The hope was to stop plans for building a hi tech center. This happening was supported by the Artists of the Katamonim, of which I am a co-founder. It was organized by the Municipality of Jerusalem's Art department and the Committee for Actions-Valley of the Deer. Artists who had taken part in the original marathon, the Artists from the Katamonin, local kindergarten children and the public, all came to paint and to learn about the area. MURAL
Project supported by Barbara Epstein, director of Community Advocacy, the Jerusalem Foundation, Canadian Branch and the generous contribution of Rochelle Rubenstein.
The students, staff and I at Givat Gonen Middle School, Jerusalem, decided to work on the four elements. We are all concerned with ecology. Water is an important issue in the world and especially Israel. The sabra, as a symbol of the steadfastness of the Israeli, is a part of the mural. Every part of the mural is symbolic. I loved the fact that we had a "Tom Sawyer" event happening when many of the students begged to be part of the project. What had been a wall for graffiti, became a wall of pride.
